It may be a little overwhelming for those newly weaning themselves off the Westernbigpharma types of easyern but a highly interesting read with detailed information about a wide array of physical ailments. Each time, I’ve gained more insight and grown a little bit deeper. In fact the integrative nature of the book and its explanations is often what makes it so intriguing and insightful.
If nothing else, I hoped it might provide metaphorical benefit, but I was actually very pleasantly surprised.

This was an extraordinary read for me! Having a good childhood is clearly so pivotal to being a well balanced and life-enriching adult. An easy read with plenty of real case examples. This book made all the western psychology I’ve read over the years make sense.

The chakr framework has value by virtue of this integration. This book made me angry, relieved, sad, excited, determined, and everything in between. Let me be totally honest, I thought this book would be a bunch of hooey, but as a yogi I felt it was important to learn about the Chakra system. The book provides a useful tool for contemplating our strengths, weaknesses, and appropriate approaches to growth. I think this is a great resource for anyone, as the ideas in it are truly universal. It’s in your body. Eastern Body, Western Mind does a great job of excavating into the psychology of development, and how our specific family members, culture, and upbringing shape us into the person we become as our chakra system is developing.
Reflecting on this framework, my own childhood experiences, and my journey toward healing in the last few years, gave me so much insight and helped me to see places where I might continue bory focus my energy. Anodea is probably my favorite author and I would love to study with her in any capacity someday.
As someone who has struggled recently with balancing spirituality with modern beliefs and values, it was validating to hea It is as difficult to reduce this book to a short review as it is to try and explain how the chakras work. I mean, sure, there’s some woo-woo in there, especially in the “exercises,” but if you’re borderline woo-woo, like me, as easterm you prefer Jung to Freud and yoga westerj painkillers, then you might just discover that in this system, this grand metaphor, there’s some interesting tools with which to examine your own life.

Her clear organization and numerous charts make browsing for subjects of personal relevance a breeze, and her comparison of the various maps of psychological development Freudian, Piagetian, Eriksonian, Reichian, and others is intriguing. My favorite yoga-related book, of the Judith has a a stellar reputation that is well-deserved. So if you eastenr to the east and are willing to overlook a few awkward exercises, then I highly recommend this book.
